Over the years, the Britax brand for car seats has been coming up with the finest products in the market. Britax is the go-to brand if you are looking for a safe car seat for your baby. The products are manufactured in the US, and recommended by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration).
The best thing about Britax is their policy of listening and keeping tabs on what customers suggest, then make necessary improvements. Britax Frontier 90 vs Pinnacle 90 are improvements of already great Frontier 85 and Pinnacle 85 respectively.
The very first (and the obvious) upgrade for Britax Frontier 90 and Pinnacle 90 is the new weight limit of 85 lbs to a whopping 90 lbs in harness mode. This max out at 120 lbs in belt-positioning booster mode.
ClickTight Technology
Both the Frontier 90 and Pinnacle 90 come with the ClickTight Installation System Technology. It makes the installation process safe, secure and easy. Its 3-step installation process is like a walk in the park, something that has made Britax well reputable in the market.
Unlike other brands, the ClickTight Technology allows parents eliminate the frustration of getting themselves into the car to install the seat, or putting their weight in the car seat just to make sure that it is installed.
SafeCell Technology
At the base, the seat is designed with SafeCell technology to secure your baby from a car crash. SafeCell keeps your child safe by compressing and lowers the COG (center of gravity) thus reduces the forward movement of the seat.
The two Frontier 90 and Pinnacle 90 integrate Steel Bars. This reduces forward flexing during a crash and strengthens connection of the seat to your car. In addition, another feature uses a two-point attachment in anchoring the top of the seat. This feature is known as Energy Absorbing Versa Tether. It also helps reduce crash forces from reaching the child.
Other Notable Improvements
There is a slight increase in height for the seated shoulder, extending what is probably the industry’s top harness height. Since height always outgrows weight when it comes to seats, both the Britax Frontier 90 and Pinnacle 90 surpasses its competitors.
The front harness system for height is now adjustable, making it easier to fine-tune as your baby grows. The harness is still modifiable even when the seat has already been installed in the car. The height adjustment has nine height options.
The recline that came with the Frontier 85 and Pinnacle 85 is gone too. You’ll no longer forget flipping it forward or back. The latest releases have a more conventional recline system, which has two positions. Both of the two positions can be used in the harness mode.
Finally, the booster height adjustments have been done away with. With the Frontier 90 and Pinnacle 90, in order to convert to booster mode, one no longer needs to crotch strap or remove the harness system – they are both conveniently stored away in place.

Conclusion
Both of them have the same features, but with minor differences. The main dissimilarity between the two is that Pinnacle 90, unlike Frontier 90, comes with SICT (Side Impact Cushion Technology). Although the Frontier 90 also features side impact protection, the SICT offers an extra layer of EPP foam. This shields the baby’s neck, head and body in case of a crash. The Pinnacle 90 also weighs slightly heftier than Frontier 90, probably because of the additional EPP foam. In terms of cost, the Pinnacle 90 is about 30 bucks pricier.
