As the proud mama of a beautiful 6 year old daughter, and a handsome 7 month old son, my car seat experience is quite extensive. Although I’ve been in the baby game for a long while now, some new products on the market are completely changing the way I look at buying car seats. When my daughter was a baby, we rear faced her until she was a year old. New regulations mandate that children rear face until 2 years old, and traditional “punkin seats”, or infant seats, will barely hold my large children until age 1! While I was pregnant, we purchased a Britax infant seat which my son has nearly outgrown already so my search for the perfect convertible car seat for long term rear facing began.
I ended up with two models from Evenflo, and while we really like them both, I thought I’d make it more simple for other moms out there and compare them here. The first seat we got was for my husband’s small Ford ( it’s a car, not sure what model ) was the Evenflo Triumph. This seat is pretty cool! Of course it’s got latches for installation, and installs fairly easily, and surprisingly it doesn’t take much more room than the infant seat. I was worried that the seat would be too big for my little baby, but the infant insert padding holds him really snugly in place. The insert is removable so the seat can grow with him. The seat reclines and has cup holders which I always look for, but the knobs to tighten the straps are a bit difficult.
I also bought the Evenflo Symphony for my truck. The Symphony seems like it would fit a smaller baby, because the harness adjustment goes lower. I am a big fan of the slide adjustment harness height! I don’t have to take out the seat to change the height. This seat has a better installation with Surelatch connectors which we don’t have on the Triumph, and I like the tightening system better as well. The Symphony also has cup holders, and reclines in 3 positions which makes it nicer for traveling. See also: Evenflo Maestro Vs Chase.

Overall, when comparing the Evenflo Symphony vs Triumph, we really like both new carseats. Having the seat permanently installed in the cars is nice because I don’t have to lug that heavy infant carrier to and from everywhere!! I wasn’t too comfortable about putting my baby in a big boy seat, but these have both surprised me! I do prefer the Symphony, though, for a few additional features that make it nicer for long car rides like the additional reclining positions. I think that as my son grows, this will be my go to car seat!!
